Tracing the relationship between morphological and chromosomal evolution in Nannospalax sp. using three-dimensional geometric morphometrics

Using three-dimensional geometric morphometrics to examine how chromosomal divergence relates to morphological evolution in blind mole rats.

Anatolian blind mole rats (Nannospalax) comprise numerous cytotypes that differ in chromosome number and structure. This project asks whether chromosomal divergence among cytotypes is paralleled by morphological change.

Landmark-based shape analyses on three-dimensional digital models of specimens are used to compare morphological and chromosomal evolution. The project is carried out within TÜBİTAK’s bilateral cooperation programme with Serbia.
