Başak Esgin

I graduated from the Department of Biology at Middle East Technical University (METU) and am currently an MSc student at Dokuz Eylül University. My main research areas are evolutionary biology, molecular evolution and genomics. In project 124Z079, funded under the TÜBİTAK 1001 programme, I am working to understand, at the molecular level, the evolutionary processes behind the chromosomal diversity of Nannospalax xanthodon.

Conservation biology is another field I am academically interested in and especially enjoy working on. Moving back and forth between molecular evolution and conservation biology, I like to think of myself as something of an “honorary conservation biologist”.
